Tips to Increase Productivity

smallWhen you’re on a tight deadline, even the small mundane tasks may feel like a huge time waster. At the end of the day, if you have not completed your task within the time frame you expected you may begin to feel unproductive. If that ends up happening, here are a few things you can implement to help increase productivity:

Start With A Clear Mind

When you start your day make sure you breathe in and exhale the stress, concerns, or worries. These will all function as distractions throughout your day, using valuable time. Meditate, do yoga, go for a walk, or participate in some other peaceful activity before you start your day to help alleviate these stresses and other concerns.

Manage Your Time

One of the easiest ways to increase productivity is to start managing your time effectively, such as putting a schedule in place. Be flexible with your schedule and pencil in time for unexpected interruptions, and perhaps some stretching. If someone has a request for you, ask them to return during the time you have set aside for these interruptions.

Prioritize Your Tasks

Once you have put your schedule in place, make sure you prioritize your tasks. Consider who the task is for, when it is due, and what impact the task has. After weighing these factors, determine the priority for the item: Low, Medium, or High. Work on the higher priority items first.

Be More Organized

A disorganized workspace can be causing you to lose significant time. As you search for hidden paper, fumble around for a folder, or try to locate an important receipt, you are using valuable time that could be used elsewhere. For this reason, it is important to organize your space. Just putting a few small things in place, such as creating a folder for important items, a folder for receipts, and a folder for contracts, can help you to be more organized.

To-Do Lists

Along with prioritizing your tasks and organizing, a to-do list is a great way to organize and prioritize your thoughts. A small notebook on your desk or a calendar can function as the medium in which you jot down your thoughts. At day’s end, cross off the tasks you have completed and prioritize the remaining tasks.
