Love Transcends Death

Two good friends recently lost precious, beloved mother figures. While writing condolence notes to each of them, my thoughts returned to thirteen years ago in the months following my own mama’s death. I recalled a simple truth someone brought to me: The love you and your mother have will connect your hearts forever.

Looking back, I seemed to receive this message as both a blazing news flash and an ancient wisdom. I suddenly felt a strong resonance with it, I recognized its truth. I have remembered this word blessing each time I realize I am in the midst of sensing a mutual connection of love with my mother or with my late husband.

In a way, it seems to me to be a sort of cosmic joke that it could be possible for such a paltry thing as death to interrupt the flow of love between hearts. We certainly miss and grieve for the lost physical presence of our loved ones who have passed into spirit. And, we can remind ourselves: Love is endless, eternal. Love is so much bigger than death.
